zzz_Archived – Basic Riders Course (BRC)

Often this course is thought to be a “beginner” class but, this is not the case. This is a “basic” course designed as a foundation to your riding education. This is why the state made this course mandatory for acquiring a motorcycle endorsement on your license in 2009.

The BRC was developed for the inexperienced rider and those who are self-taught on a motorcycle (those who have not had “formal” training on a bike); even those with years of experience will find this class enlightening. It is not necessary to have a motorcycle for the BRC; Saddle-Up provides motorcycles for the course. Although a student can ride their own motorcycle we suggest that students ride one of the motorcycles we provide. The BRC is a 16 hour course with two components; 6-hours of classroom instruction and 10-hours of riding. This course focuses on helping the inexperienced rider acquire the basic skills needed to ride and helps the experienced rider develop better skills and learn proper techniques to be a safe rider. The course is divided into either two or three days depending on the time of year to better deal with extremes in weather. Class size in Lubbock is minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 riders; and for Dalhart minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 riders.
